The US House Judiciary Committee has filed charges against the president as part of an investigation into his possible impeachment. The accusations were read by the head of the committee, Jerrold Nadler. The president is accused of abusing his official position and obstructing the work of Congress.
The president is also accused of freezing military aid to third world countries and putting pressure on their leaders for personal political gain.

1. Many consider this process illegal.

If the House Judiciary Committee approves these accusations against the President, then the entire House of Representatives will vote on this issue. The majority of deputies represent the Democratic Party.
If the House of Representatives approves the charges, the Senate will have to try the President. Most senators are Republicans.

  • Democrats decide to impeach – what’s next?
  • The impeachment procedure was declared illegal by a majority vote.
  • It is possible that the results of the vote will be challenged and the procedure will have to be repeated.
  • New documents clear up wave of mistrust among Democrats

Employees of the apparatus of the House of Representatives do not exclude that the list of charges may be expanded: opponents of the head of the White House have not yet decided whether the list of claims against the president will include charges of attempting to collude with a foreign state to interfere in US elections, as well as charges of obstruction of justice, which were contained in the final report of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

2. New information in the impeachment procedure.

On Monday, as part of the US President’s impeachment proceedings, regular hearings were held in the Congressional Judiciary Committee, which lasted more than 9 hours. During the meeting, the Democrats rejected the demands of the Republicans, who insisted on calling their own witnesses.

2.1 It is possible to repeat the voting procedure.

Instead, the president’s opponents listened to testimony from lawyers representing the position of the Democratic-controlled House Intelligence Committee.
At the end of November, this committee published a 300-page report on the “crimes and wrongdoings” of the US president, which his political opponents consider sufficient grounds for removal from power.

  1. The text of the resolution is being prepared for publication.
  2. Repeating the procedure is possible only with a court decision.
  3. The results of the repeat voting will come into force after a month.

Contrary to popular belief, the announcement of impeachment does not mean the automatic removal of the president from power. In the United States, impeachment is only the presentation of formal accusations against the head of state, with which Congress comes forward. To approve these charges, the consent of two-thirds of the members of the Senate is needed.
